Part-time engineers and applied scientists wanted in our LA office to help initiate and lead innovative government, commercial, and independent company research and development projects that relate to our focusing corporate themes. Positions to become full-time at project initiation.
BS and 5 years related experience required. MS desired. Experience with proposal development and writing is highly desired. Degree areas of interest include Atmospheric Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, and Electrical, Aerospace, and Mechanical Engineering. Specific disciplines of interest include Thermal Sciences, Aeronautics, Aerodynamics, Astronautics, Astrodynamics, Orbital Mechanics, Material Science, Mechanical Design, Communications, Computer Network Architecture Design, Robotics and Automation, Mission Design, Mission Analysis, and Systems Design.
Only a few hours per week are required at start. Candidate must already live in surrounding LA area. If currently employed, candidates should consider this as an augmentation to current employment with potential for future transition to full-time employment. Ideal candidate will be a self-starter interested in creating his or her own future.
A Senior Mechanical Engineer is needed to support multidisciplinary project development of marine and aerospace systems for the US Government. Position involves project management, design, component testing, and fabrication of prototypes and their testing. Position reports to the President. Salary depends on experience and expertise.
Responsibilities include managing Government projects with multiple subcontractors, milestones, deliverables and prototype testing; participating in, monitoring, and reviewing all engineering work including subcontractors; leading and/or conducting the preliminary design of systems in parallel with component design, fabrication and component testing and performing detailed structural analysis to support design solutions; managing component design validation tests in the lab, in pools, pressure chambers, or in the ocean and overseeing test readiness and safety reviews. Managing the detailed design of prototype hardware including design analysis and the generation of detailed fabrication drawings, the selection of procured parts and materials and the monitoring of the procurement and fabrication of parts including identification, selection and interface with machine shops, vendors and other fabricators. In addition, manage the activities of staff mechanical engineers, analyze the behavior of complex systems in challenging environments, and lead the development of proposals for new business.
This position requires: 1) a Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with 10 years experience or a Masters of Science degree and 5 years experience; 2) a demonstrated ability to perform the preliminary and detailed design and prototyping and testing of mechanical systems; 3) a thorough knowledge of and experience using CAD software; 4) an ability to effectively communicate and present information to team members, team leaders, customers, and top management; 5) an ability to respond positively and flexibly to significant changes in design focus or direction and a willingness to tackle new challenges and assignments as they arise; and 6) expertise in the use of Matlab and standard business applications software (e.g. MS Office), especially Excel, and Internet resources. The successful candidate must be capable of receiving a US Government security clearance. US Citizenship Required.
In addition, we desire: a previous (or current) security clearance; project management experience of hardware development and testing on Government projects; previous experience designing and analyzing marine and/or softgoods (textiles, films, polymers, plastics) systems; extensive SolidWorks experience; experience in proposal development; a highly motivated and experienced self-starter; a hobbyist who loves building gadgets; and a candidate who is potentially interested in taking on increased business management responsibilities.
